Greg Boardman produces the 2024 CMC debate session that raises themes featured in his article for the The Children’s Media Yearbook 2024.
TSM Producer Gregory Boardman would like to thank the participants in this year’s CMC Debate, Gary Pope, Emily Horgan, Larua Taylor-Williams, Jackie Edwards and the Children’s Laureate Frank Cottrell-Boyce.
The Children’s Media Summit in February 2024 left us in no doubt about the crisis in the systems that we are building around our young people.
Public Service Content for children is in mortal danger but it was wonderful to work with this team of experts and listen to the passionate calls for action. To quote Gary Pope:
Pluralism is fundamental for the development of our diverse society and if we are to look after the future we need to look after the kids now. And that can’t happen if all those stories that will inspire our future are not told because the cash wasn’t there.
Gregory produced this year’s CMC Debate Session alongside Colin Ward of the Children’s Media Foundation. Many of themes raised during the debate echo ideas that Gregory has written about in his article for the The Children’s Media Yearbook 2024.
We should be in no doubt that professionals across our sector, along with parents, must take responsibility being brave, curious and forceful as we regulate for good quality, culturally relevant content with the same vigour we might regulate for online harms.
